New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Haven County Cutters swept the New Jersey Jackals with a 10-6 win at Yale Field on Labor Day, in the regular season finale for both squads. The loss was New Jersey's sixth in a row entering the postseason beginning on Wednesday.

A Marcos Rodriguez RBI single in the first inning, for the New Jersey Jackals, put the team from Little Falls, NJ ahead early. But their lead didn't last long as the Cutters went homerun-happy in the second.

A two-run homerun by Orlando Encarnacion, and a three-run homerun by Matt Mercurio surged the Cutters ahead 5-1.

In the third, an error by right fielder Encarnacion allowed one Jackal run to score, and a Guilleremo Reyes RBI groundout accounted for the other. After four innings, the Jackals had battled to within two.

But as Kevin Ool's struggles continued, the Cutters offense continued thriving by adding three more runs in the fourth, and two more in the fifth inning off of Demetrius Banks. Chris Gaskin belted a two-run homerun in the fifth, extending New Haven's lead to 10-3.

Encarnacion's second error in right field, on a routine single, led to New Jersey's fourth run in the seventh. And the Jackals added two more in the eighth on Francisco Leandro two RBI single. It made the score 10-6, and that would be the final.

Matt Salvato earned the win in relief, while the loss went to Kevin Ool.
