American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(NASHUA, NH, September 3, 2007) The Nashua Pride wrapped up the 2007 regular season Monday night with a 6-3 victory over the Can Am Grays before a crowd of 1,637 at Historic Holman Stadium. Nashua scored five runs in the first inning off Gray's starter and loser Dustin Nielsen (5-4) and then cruised behind the pitching of Joe Gannon and three Pride relievers.
After Bryan Duplissie put the Pride ahead to stay with a sacrifice, Jason Crosland and Jack Joffrion belted back to back home runs. Crosland's was a three-run shot that gave Nashua a 4-0 lead and Joffrion's solo blast gave the Pride a five-run bulge. It was the first home run of the season for both Crosland and Joffrion.
The game stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Pride added a run on an infield grounder by Angelo Burrows which scored Duplissie who opened the inning with a single.
The Grays scored all of their runs in the ninth inning. Pride pitcher Eiji Yano started the uprising when he hit the leadoff man Ben Tinius with a pitch. Tinius was hit after both benches had been warned by the umpires that any close pitches or hits batsmen would result in an ejection. Both benches emptied at the end of the seventh inning after the Pride's Jermy Acey was hit by the Gray's Tony O'Donnell. Acey had some verbal exchanges with Grays' players after he was plunked by O'Donnell precipitating the emptying of the benches.
After Yano was ejected, Nashua's regular catcher, Luis Rodriguez , took over on the mound. Yano was charged with one run while Rodriguez surrendered a pair.
Pride starter Gannon (1-1) was solid through six innings as the knuckleballer allowed just two hits and no runs, walking three and striking out two.
Nashua winds up the regular season with an overall record of 50-43. The Pride will host the New Jersey Jackals in games one and two of the Can Am League Semi-Final Series on Wednesday and Thursday nights at Historic Holman Stadium. Both games will get under way at 6:35 PM. Wednesday night's pitching match-up will feature a pair of the league's best at Hideki Nagasaka (RHP, 10-1, 2.94) will be on the mound for the Pride and John Kelly (RHP, 7-2, 2.34) for the Jackals.
