New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ Almost immediately off of the bus, and onto to the field, the New Jersey Jackals struggled offensively in the first game of their three game series with Quebec. Les Capitales won it easily 6-1.

Starting pitchers Brad Purcell for Quebec, and Jared Brown for New Jersey worked around their respective jams in the first two innings to keep the opposition scoreless. But in the bottom of the third, Les Capitales finally put up a run on Brown. A Dany Scalabrini RBI single scored Alex Garcia, making it a 1-0 Quebec advantage.

The Jackals never got to Purcell, who lasted only four innings in his first start since returning from injury, but they did show patience against reliever Shawn Ryan to even the score. In the fifth, Ryan walked three Jackals, leading to an RBI groundout by Jason Belcher.

Quebec regained the lead in the bottom of sixth, with Brown still on the mound. He walked two batters, and despite battling to get out of the jam, Brown allowed a two-out, two RBI single to Olivier Lepine, giving Quebec a 3-1 cushion.

They added to that lead in the next inning with two more runs, this time against reliever Adam Nikolic. After getting Willie James to ground out, Scalabrini reached on an infield single and Geoffrey Tomlinson was plunked. That set the stage for the middle of the lineup, and they delivered. Lantigua singled home a run and Nestor Smith pushed across the second run on a ground out.

Les Capitales put the nail in the coffin during the bottom of the eighth, as Garcia collected Quebec's sixth and last run on a sacrifice fly.

The loss went to New Jersey's Jared Brown. Brown allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits, while walking four, and striking out three.

Quebec's Jason Pilkington received the much deserve win, while pitching four innings of scoreless relief. He surrendered only two hits and two walks. Pilkington also fanned one.
