December 7, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals were not able to cool down the red-hot power-play of the Toledo Walleye and fell 6-2 tonight at First Arena. The Walleye entered the game with the best power-play unit in the ECHL and added to it with a 4-for-5 performance with the man advantage.
The Walleye power-play got started at 11:48 of the first period with Alden Hirschfeld's fourth of the season from Troy Schwab and Joel Chouinard. Martin Frk added to the Toledo lead before the first intermission with a one-time missile on the power-play for his fifth of the season. Schwab and Hirschfeld assisted Frk's tally.
The Walleye added two more power-play goals in the second period to jump out to a 4-0 advantage. First, Tyler Barnes capitalized with the man advantage at 9:56 of the second period with his eighth tally of the year. Chouinard and Frk earned the assists on Barnes' goal. Less than a minute later Anthony Luciani buried his 12th of the season on the power-play from Shane Sims and Marek Tvrdon. The Jackals battled back in the second half of the frame with goals from Steven Shamanski and Ryan Rashid. Shamanski got the Jackals on the board at 13:56 of the middle frame with his fourth of the season. Ryan Hand was credited with an assist, which was his first with the Jackals. Rashid redirected Zach Tolkinen's point shot at 17:19 to cut the Walleye lead to two. Kellan Tochkin also added an assist in his second game with the Jackals.
However, closing the deficit to two would be the closest the Jackals would come to a comeback. Shane Berschbach netted his fourth of the season at 8:17 to extend the Toledo lead back to three goals. Scott Czarnowczan buried his first of the year at 11:23 assisted by Tvrdon and Barnes to seal the Walleye win.
Sam Marotta stopped 20 of 26 shots faced but was handed the loss. Jeff Lerg stopped 14 of 16 shots faced for the win. The Jackals went 0-for-2 with the man advantage and the Walleye went 4-for-5 on the power-play.
