Jackals Fall in OT, 6-5

Johnstown, PA- After an 18 hour delay the Elmira Jackals and Johnstown Chiefs started the second game of the home and home series at the War Memorial in Johnstown, PA. For fans that like high scoring affairs it was worth the wait. Johnstown picked up their 20th win of the season in a 6-5 overtime thriller.

The Elmira Jackals opened the first period with a 13-7 advantage in the shot category, but it would the Chiefs that netted the first goal. Former Jackal Trevor Hendrix found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. The Jackals would continue the heavy pressure and tie the game at 1-1 at the 16:37 mark on Wes Cunningham's seventh goal of the year, Benoit Doucet would get the assist on the play.

The Jackals would open the second period with the 2-1 go ahead goal just 3:39 seconds in. Brian Ihnacak won the face off to Chris Korchinski who then put a pass off of Wes Cunningham. The Puck then came back to Ihnacak who fired home his fourth goal of the season to take the lead. The Chiefs would then strike back with a flurry of goals. The first came at the 4:56 mark, a Mike Bartlett tally. The Chiefs then took their second lead of the game at the 5:51 mark when Kyle Wharton put a shot pas David Shantz. Johnstown then took the 4-2 lead on a goal from Andy Contois at the 7:18 mark. At the 14:49 mark of the second the Chiefs scored their last goal of the period, a shorthanded Randy Rowe tally. The Jackals would pull within two at the 16:40 mark on Benoit Doucet's sixth goal of the season. Steve Yetman and Joe Grimaldi would get the assists on the play.

Trailing 5-3 to start the third period the Elmira Jackals found a way to crack Johnstown goaltender Chris Mayotte. At the 17:08 mark Josh Aspenlind would take a beautiful pass from Benoit Doucet to bring the game withing a goal. Moments later at the 17:32 mark Paul McIlveen netted the game tying goal on a break away rush. The 5-5 score would hold through regulation, so for the eighth time this season the Jackals went to overtime. Just 2:04 into the extra frame Chiefs forward Mike Bartlett netted his sixth of the season to propel the Chiefs back into a tie for the number one spot in the North Division.

With the overtime point the Jackals will improve to 15-12-1-3 while the Chiefs improve to 20-9-1-0.
