Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Checkers forward Lee Falaredeau recorded a hat-trick helping the Checkers dismantle the visiting Florida Everblades by a score of 8-0.
It didn't take long for the Checkers to get on the scoreboard. Charlotte forward Mike Bayrack struck for the first tally of the game when he blasted a shot over the blocker-side of Florida goalie David Leggio 22 seconds into the contest putting his team up 1-0. Charlotte would register a second goal when Bayrack and forward Peter Tsimikalis streaked down the ice on a two-on-one break. Bayrack shot was stopped by Leggio but the goalie couldn't stop the rebound by Tsimikalis and the Checkers took a 2-0 lead at 12:40 of the first stanza.
During the second period, the Checkers extended their lead when Falardeau wristed a shot over the glove side of Leggio at 17:42. Charlotte would take a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes of action.
The scoring continued for the Checkers during the final period the game. Falardeau fired another shot from a sharp angle that beat Leggio over the blocker side at 7:02 putting up the Checkers 4-0. Later, Tsimikalis found a loose puck in the high slot and put the puck behind Leggio at 8:27 giving Charlotte a 5-0 advantage and spelling the end of the night for Leggio. Florida goalie Anton Khudobin came in relief of Leggio but wouldn't fair much better as he allowed the first shot on net by Checkers centerman Michel Leveille who would score after receiving a nice pass from forward Jeff Miles. Checkers winger David Rutherford added a goal at 14:39 and Falardeau potted his hat-trick at 18:47 helping the Checkers to a 8-0 victory.
