New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey began their seven game road trip in spectacular fashion. They brought their bats to Atlantic City in a 10-7 win over the Surf. The win extended their lead in the Can-Am League to three games over the idle Les Capitales de Quebec.
It didn't take long for the Jackals to drive Surf starter Shingo Mitsumori out of the ballgame. Clyde Williams collected an RBI single in the first. But the second would be the huge frame in the second, as they tagged Mitsamori and Coogie Freedman for seven more runs. New Jersey would get RBI's from Francisco Leandro, Zack Smithlin, Wilton Veras, another from Williams, and they topped it off with a three-run homerun off the bat of Matt Lauderdale. After an inning and a third, Mitsamori was out of the ballgame, and after two innings, the Jackals were out to an 8-0 lead
The Surf got on the board in the fourth to draw within five. Rico Santana's three-run homerun did the damage.
But the longball wouldn't stop the Jackals. They added single runs in fifth and sixth innings, extending a 10-3 lead.
In the seventh, Atlantic City proved they wouldn't go quietly. Anthony Granato collected a two-RBI double and Rob Fischer crushed a two-run homerun to left, cutting the Jackal lead to 10-7. Relievers Kevin Fitzgerald and Rusty Tucker made sure that the Surf got no closer, shutting them down in the eighth and ninth.
Isaac Pavlik earned the win despite surrendering seven earned runs, including two homeruns. It was his fifth win of the season. Shingo Mitsamori suffered the loss. New Jersey's Rusty Tucker picked up his league leading 11th save of the season.
