North Shore Spirit News Release
With the score knotted through five innings of play, the New Jersey Jackals posted six straight runs to take control of the game and defeat the Spirit 8-4 on Thursday night at the New Fraser Field.
With pre-game festivities in the parking lot and a Parrot head celebration in the stands, the Spirit welcomed a large crowd to Fraser Field. There were 2,846 fans on hand for the rubber game of the series. Unfortunately, they didn't get to see the home team come out victorious in this one.
Joey Siak (1-1) took the loss for the Spirit, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits in 6.2 innings of work. Joe Orloski (7-4) earned the victory for the Jackals
New Jersey jumped out to the early lead in the second inning, taking advantage of a costly error from Spirit third baseman Cleatus Davidson to put two unearned runs on the board. After Siak retired the first two batters, Chris Rowan reached on an error and scored on a home run from Matt Hagan.
North Shore evened the score with a pair of runs in the fifth, doing all of their damage with two outs. After Alex Trezza was hit by a pitch, Davidson followed with an RBI double to score him from first base. Agramonte came up with an RBI single to score Davidson and tie the game.
The deadlock was short-lived, however, as the Jackals grabbed a run in the sixth inning. A solo home run from Francisco Lebron put New Jersey back ahead of the Spirit, 3-2.
The Jackals added to their lead with another run in the seventh inning. Rowan doubled to lead off the inning, and scored on an RBI double from Horace Lawrence.
With a two-run lead heading into the eighth inning, New Jersey grabbed four more runs to put the game out of reach for the Spirit. A walk, a single, and a hit batsman loaded the bases for the Jackals and knocked Spirit reliever Jose Brazoban from the game. Alex Herrera entered the action with the bases loaded and no one out, and gave up a two-run double to the first batter he faced. After a strikeout from Rowan, Hagan followed with a two-run single to put the Jackals ahead 8-2.
The Spirit answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, both coming on solo home runs. Marcos Agramonte launched the first shot over the right-field wall and Rob Fischer went deep to left field to pull North Shore within four runs of the Jackals.
That was as close as they would come in this one, though, as the Jackals kept them off of the board in the ninth inning.
The Spirit welcome the Grays to town on Friday night for the first game of a three-game series. The action gets underway at 7:05 at the New Fraser Field.
