Can-Am League game recap
August 25, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
ELMIRA 15, GRAYS 6 @ Elmira, N.Y. Time: 3:30 ATT: 763 W: Ryan Dittfurth (1-3) L: Lincoln Mincks (8-6) S: None HR: ELM - Amaury Casana (1), Jabe Bergeron (3), Trey Beamon (5), Onix Mercado (4) One night after being limited to three hits, Elmira unleashed a 19-hit attack, pummeling the Grays 15-6. CF Jason Tuttle led the Pioneers' onslaught, going 4-for-6 with three RBI, while 3B Amaury Casana, DH Trey Beamon and RF Ransel Melgarejo had three hits each. Elmira was up 1-0 after three before scoring in each of the next five innings, including four in the sixth and four in the seventh. Coming into the game with only 26 home runs as a team, by far the fewest in the league, the Pioneers added another four to their total, with one apiece by Casana, Beamon, C Onix Mercado and 1B Jabe Bergeron. CF Bernard Caston went 3-for-6 with three RBI for the Grays. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BROCKTON 8, NEW HAVEN COUNTY 4 @ West Haven, Conn. Time: 2:35 ATT: 2,767 W: Oil Can Boyd (4-3) L: Tim Keinath (3-7) S: None HR: BRK - Craig Lewis (11), NHC - Keto Anderson (4) Brockton jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and used a solid outing from Oil Can Boyd to cruise past New Haven County 8-4. The Rox got four in the first on 3B Jake Daubert's RBI double, DH Kris Zacuto's two-run double and RF Eddie Gerald's RBI groundout; they then added one more in the second on Daubert's RBI single. That would prove to be enough for Boyd, who went eight innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven for his fourth victory of the season. CF Keto Anderson's three-run jack in the fifth was one of the only offensive highlights for the Cutters. Daubert finished 3-for-5 on the evening, while Brockton 1B Craig Lewis and SS Eugene Julien both had two hits. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- QUEBEC 2, WORCESTER 1 @ Worcester, Mass. Time: 2:36 ATT: 3,022 W: Derrick DePriest (1-0) L: Greg Montalbano (0-1) S: Christian Mendoza (19) HR: None In his first appearance for Quebec since being acquired from Jackson of the Central League, starter Joe Brown was spectacular, bringing a no-hitter into the eighth inning. He didn't receive the win, though, as it took the Capitales until the ninth to score an unearned run off of Worcester reliever Greg Montalbano and edge the Tornadoes 2-1. Quebec had scored their first run in the third on CF Goefrey Tomlinson's RBI single, but Worcester tied the game in the eighth on CF Lucas Taylor's RBI single, bringing home DH Chris Colabello, who had broken up the no-no with a single to lead off the inning. Tornadoes starter Alex Pena had an excellent outing as well, limiting Quebec to four hits and one run in seven innings of work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW JERSEY 8, NORTH SHORE 4 @ Lynn, Mass. Time: 2:46 ATT: 2,846 W: Joe Orloski (7-4) L: Joey Siak (1-1) S: None HR: NJ - Francisco Lebron (12), Matt Hagen (2), NS - Rob Fischer (14), Marcos Agramonte (5) New Jersey got 14 hits and broke a 2-2 sixth-inning deadlock to defeat North Shore 8-4. The Jackals drew first blood with RF Matt Hagen's two-run homer in the second, but the Spirit tied the game with two in the fifth on SS Cleatus Davidson's RBI double and 2B Marcos Agramonte's RBI single. New Jersey came back with one in the sixth on 1B Francisco Lebron's home run, another in the seventh on CF Horace Lawrence's RBI double, and broke the game wide open with a four-run eighth. Joe Orloski got the victory for New Jersey, allowing two runs on three hits to go along with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
