New Haven County Cutters News Release

Attendance Up 11%

With a full season to plan plus a winning team in the second half of the season, Cutters home attendance is trending upwards. Attendance is up 17% through Wednesday with the average at Yale Field 1,303 per game following last night's win compared to 1,156 for the same period in the team's first year. The top crowd of the season was 3,045 on August 3 while five other crowds have topped 2,000 compared to only four gatherings of that size up to this date one year ago. "We have said all along that what we are looking for is growth," said General Manager Marie Heikkinen Webb. "We know we won't get where we want to be overnight, but we are encouraged. We really like the increased enthusiasm we feel from our fans.

New Half, New Team

It has been an impressive second half of the season for the Cutters, who now find themselves sitting in first place with 11 games to go. Last night's 12-4 triumph over the Rox was not just the Cutters ninth win out of the last 11 games, it also ensured another series win, their fifth in a row. If they win tonight, it will be their third sweep of the season. Since the halfway point of the season, the team has won nine out of 11 series.

Zamora Comes Back Swinging

Junior Zamora stepped right back into the Cutters lineup after being out since August 14 with a hamstring injury and picked up right where he left off. Having hit in his first 14 games with the club before his injury, he quickly made it 15 for 15 when he laced a RBI double in the first inning of last night's contest. It was the first of a pair of two baggers last night. He is hitting .435 (27 for 62) since joining the Cutters.

Bill Peavey Streak Update

Bill Peavey's consecutive games on base streak reached the half century mark last night when he singled home a run in the first inning. It was one of four hits on the night for the lefty first baseman, who also drove in three. His 4 for 5 game raised his batting average to .339, fourth in the league. He has played in every Cutters game (81 and counting) this season and is only player to do so.
