New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals picked up their first win of the second half of the Can-Am League season as they defeated the Worcester Tornadoes 4-3 on Thursday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. The win was New Jersey's seventh in eight games this season against Worcester.
The Jackals opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as 3B Chris Kelly led off with a single. Following two straight outs, RF Marcos Rodriguez reached on an error by Worcester 1B Chris Colabello to put runners on first and second. The next batter, LF Andrew Larsen, ripped an RBI single to left field to make it 1-0 New Jersey.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Tornadoes battled back to take a 2-1 lead courtesy of an RBI double by Colabello and a sacrifice fly by C Alex Trezza. However, in the bottom of the inning, New Jersey jumped back on top when DH Luke Allen and 3B Chris Kelly began the frame with singles before 1B Juan Tejeda tripled them both home to give the Jackals a 3-2 advantage. Two batters later, a sacrifice fly by RF Marcos Rodriguez made it 4-2 New Jersey. In the top of the sixth, Worcester pulled within one at 4-3 when LF Francisco Caraballo plated RF Scott Grimes on an RBI single. That was as close as the Tornadoes would get.
Jackals starter Isaac Pavlik (5-2) earned the win, allowing three runs on eleven hits in seven innings. New Jersey's bullpen held the Tornadoes in check, with Hunter Davis pitching a scoreless eighth and Rusty Tucker striking out three batters in the ninth to earn his 12th save of the season and 26th career save with New Jersey. Tucker is now one save shy of tying Mike Hartung's Jackals career record of 27 saves. For Worcester, Shaun McNamara (2-6) took the loss after allowing three earned runs in eight innings.
The Jackals and Tornadoes continue their four-game series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium when New Jersey sends right-hander Aaron Tressler to the hill against Worcester's Alex Pena. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, you can catch every inning via live webcast at www.jackals.com with the broadcast beginning five minutes prior to first pitch.
