Pride Dropped by Rapidz; 9-4

(Nashua, N.H., July 17, 2008) The Nashua Pride saw the Ottawa Rapidz hit five home runs against Pride pitching and suffered a 9-4 loss in front of 1373 fans at Historic Holman Stadium on Thursday night.

Ottawa first baseman Jabe Bergeron and center fielder Pete Pirman each belted a pair of home runs in the game to lead the Rapidz over Nashua. Bergeron finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI while Pirman went 3-for-4 adding a triple and two RBI. Catcher Kyle Geiger also added a homer in the game; he was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Rapidz starting pitcher Adam Hawes (3-6) earned the win going six innings, giving up four runs, on nine hits, three walks and four strike outs. Reliever Reid Price went the rest of the way for Ottawa, dealing three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit to the Pride while striking out two.

Pride starter Lance Stevens (4-4) suffered the loss lasting five and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs, on six hits, no walks and two strike outs. German Melendez came out of the bullpen for Nashua and allowed three runs, on five hits, while picking up five strike outs.

Nashua left fielder Dennis Abreu extended his hitting streak to 18 consecutive games, going 2-for-4 in the game with a triple and two RBI. He tied the Can-Am League season high for most consecutive games with at least one hit, set by Worcester's B.J. Weed earlier in the month. Pride center fielder Vinny Pennell went 3-for-5 in the game with a pair of doubles and an RBI.

The Pride and Rapidz will play game two of the four game series on Friday night when world champion skier Bode Miller will suit-up for Nashua and will play in the game for the Pride. New England Patriots tackle Matt Light will also put on a Pride uniform and coach first base after singing the National Anthem to open the night.

Nashua will send right hander Isaac Burkett (0-2) to the mound to face Ottawa right hander Tanner Watson (1-2). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
