Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Odessa, TX) - The Odessa Jackalopes picked up five of eight possible points in the standings during last week's four games in five night stretch to maintain their hold on first place in the CHL's Southern Conference.
Last Week's Record: 2-1-1
Season Record: 12-2-2
Tuesday vs. Amarillo, 6-5 (SO) Win
The Jackalopes put up 48 shots on goal for a new season high. Dominic Leveille and Mike Ramsay each scored shootout goals, while Joel Martin was perfect in four rounds against Amarillo shooters.
Thursday vs. Texas, 7-3 Loss
Odessa trailed 3-2 in the second period after scoring back-to-back power play goals, but Texas responded with two goals in the period's final two minutes to take control and the eventual win. It was Odessa's first regulation loss since October 17th.
Friday at Laredo, 4-3 (SO) Win
Collin Circelli scored the game-tying goal and the shootout winner for the Jackalopes in their first meeting against Laredo since game six of last year's Southern Conference Semifinals, when the Jacks eliminated the Bucks from the playoffs.
Saturday at Rio Grande Valley, 4-3 (SO) Loss
It was another thriller against the Killer Bees and Grant Goeckner-Zeller scored the only shootout goal, for either team, in round five to seal the 4-3 win for Rio Grande Valley. Juha Toivonen stopped 37 shots for Odessa in the game.
-- Upcoming Games --
Wednesday at Texas, 7:05 PM
It's Odessa's first of two trips to the NYTEX Sports Centre this season, after playing five games there in 2008-09. Last season the Jackalopes were 1-3-1 at Texas.
Friday vs. Allen, 7:05 PM
The top two teams in the Southern Conference square off for the first time this season. The expansion Americans are the early surprise of the season, just five points behind Odessa in the standings, with a 10-3-1 record.
Saturday vs. Rio Grande Valley, 7:05 PM
The Jackalopes are 2-0-0 this season at home against the Killer Bees, outscoring Rio Grande Valley 12-2 in those two games. The Bees defeated Odessa, 4-3, in a shootout last Saturday.
Sunday vs. Amarillo, 7:05 PM
The Jackalopes look to continue their dominance over the rival Gorillas. Odessa is 3-1-0 against Amarillo this season, outscoring the Gorillas 21-13 in those four games.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
