Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor) Goaltender Jack Campbell is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the Spitfires coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, October 31st, 2010. Campbell led the Spitfires to a perfect 3-0 record last week, posting a 2.33 goals against average and .925 save percentage in three games played.
On Thursday, Campbell stopped 23 of 25 shots faced in Windsor's 4-2 victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at the WFCU Centre. The following night, he turned in a masterful performance, making 36 saves in helping lead the Spitfires to their first road victory of the season as they defeated the Erie Otters 3-2. In the team's third game in three days, the Spitfires travelled to Niagara on Saturday to take on the IceDogs. Campbell once again came up big with a 27 save performance before stopping all three of Niagara's shooters in the overtime shootout, providing Windsor with a 4-3 overtime shootout win.
Campbell, an 18 year-old native of Port Huron, Michigan is in his first season with Windsor and was selected by the Spitfires in the sixth round of the 2008 OHL Priority Selection. He was also the first goalie selected in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft as the Dallas Stars took him in the first round, 11th overall.
Prior to joining the Spitfires, Campbell played a major role in backstopping Team USA to a gold medal performance at the most recent 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan. He also won gold medals as part of Team USA's Under-18 squads at the IIHF World Men's Under-18 Championships in 2009 and 2010. Campbell is one of only two players in USA Hockey history to have won three IIHF gold medals during his career.
The two-time defending MasterCard Memorial Cup and Rogers OHL Champions will travel to Guelph this Friday to take on the Storm. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen on TVCOGECO (Cable 11 in Windsor) or fans can follow the action with Mike Miller, the voice of the Spitfires on AM800 CKLW.
Windsor will play its next home game at the WFCU Centre on Wednesday, November 10th as they welcome the London Knights to town. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all Spitfire home games can be purchased from the TekSavvy.com Box Office (Gate 2 at the WFCU Centre), by calling (519) 254-5000 or online at windsorspitfires.com.
