Majors' Justin Shugg Named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Justin Shugg of the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 31. In three games Shugg scored five goals and three assists for eight points with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Shugg's week was highlighted by a four-point game on Sunday scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist as first star of a 7-5 victory over the Sudbury Wolves. His first goal of the game was a shorthanded marker that put the Majors on the board in the first period before adding two goals in the second period including one on the power play. His assist set-up Chris Doyle's game-winner late in the third period. Shugg also earned first star honours on Saturday night in Barrie scoring two goals including the game-winner on the power play plus a shorthanded goal as part of a three-point game to lead the Majors to a 5-2 win over the Colts. He also recorded an assist on Friday night as part of a 5-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.

Shugg, an 18-year-old from Niagara Falls, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and first with the Majors. Selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, Shugg will represent Team OHL at the 2010 SUBWAY Super Series on Monday November 15 in Sudbury, ON.

Daniel Erlich of the London Knights and Kale Kerbashian of the Sarnia Sting were each considered for the award this week. Both players had eight points in three games with Erlich scoring three goals and five assists, with Kerbashian scoring four goals and four assists. In goal, Jack Campbell of the Windsor Spitfires won three games in net while posting a goals-against-average of 2.27 and save percentage of .925.
