Moncton Wildcats News Release

The Moncton Wildcats are proud to announce that they have taken Ivan Barbashev with the #1 pick in the CHL import draft. Ivan comes from Moscow Russia where he was the captain and first line center of the Under 17 Russian National Team. Ivan is 5'11'' 175lbs and is a hard working two way center. The International Scouting Service had him ranked at the #1 prospect for the 2012 import draft.

Ross MacLean of the ISS said this about what he saw in his play: "Elite level offensive talent, great feet moves extremely fast loves to rush down the outside with the puck, has exciting hands and a laser shot with a great release."

Barbashev was born on December 14th 1995, with the late birthday he will be available for the 2014 NHL draft which gives him two years of development here in Moncton.

"Solid two way forward," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Danny Flynn. "He was captain of his team and competes hard every shift. We feel he has the potential to develop into a great two way offensive forward for our team"

The Wildcats pick 22nd overall in the draft, more to come.
