'It Was an Unreal Feeling': Jordan Returns to the Warriors Line-Up over the Weekend

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Cole Jordan was penciled in to be a big piece of the Moose Jaw Warriors' lineup this season, but an offseason injury changed those plans.

Jordan opened the season in the Warriors' lineup, however, he left the team's second game in Saskatoon and missed the next 24 games with a lower body injury.

The Calgary Flames' fifth round selection returned to the ice this past weekend, suiting up in both games against the Swift Current Broncos.

"It was an unreal feeling to get back in," Jordan said on Monday. "It was obviously a long, long time off, but coming back just felt really, really nice to get back out there with the boys."

Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said Jordan's return was a big boost for the team.

"Cole is a popular teammate and everyone, coaches included, were excited to see him back in the lineup doing what he does best," he said.

After attending Calgary Flames training camp and attempting to play to start the season, Jordan decided, along with Warriors athletic therapist Brooke Kosolofski, to shut it down to allow himself time to heal.

Jordan said it was difficult to sit out as many games as he did, but the time off was what he needed to get back to full strength.

"You always want to be out there, you want to contribute to the team, but it wasn't something that I was really able to play through," he said. "It was good to take that time off and I feel really good about my game now."

Jordan returned to the ice on Friday in Swift Current and was eventually paired with Denton Mateychuk on the Warriors' top defensive pairing late in that game. He was in the team's starting lineup for the rematch at home on Saturday.

Despite practicing for the past few weeks, the 19-year-old defenceman said there was a bit of rust to knock off in that first game back.

"It's a lot different than just practicing every day, games are just a different level," he said. "First few shifts were a little bit rusty, but after I got those out of the way, I felt pretty good."

Jordan had three goals and ten points in 23 games last season with the Warriors in the Subway WHL Hub. He has four goals and 17 points overall in 65 career WHL games.

He said he's ready to help his team add to its 13-13-1-1 record through 28 games this season.

"It's just an unbelievable feeling being out there with my teammates again, just being able to actually contribute rather than watching every game," Jordan said.

O'Leary said Jordan adds experience to the Warriors' backend.

"He has a calmness and poise with the puck that allows him to start a lot of transition as well as scoring opportunities in the offensive zone," he said.

Jordan and the Warriors face-off with the Saskatoon Blades in a key East Division battle coming up on Tuesday night at Mosaic Place.
