Regina Pats News Release
Over 1,800 Teddy Bears on their Way to Regina Kids Regina, Saskatchewan - After a two year-interruption, the Regina Pats held the classic Teddy Bear Toss Night, sponsored by Global Regina, on Friday at the Brandt Centre. Fans of the blue and red once again showed their generosity by tossing 1,896 stuffed toys onto the ice during the first period on a goal from Tanner Howe.
"To see all the teddy bears come down was a pretty cool moment," Howe says. "I've never had a goal like that, so it was pretty new for me and fun to be a part of."
Volunteers collected every bagged bear and loaded them into a 2021 Ford Maverick from Bennett Dunlop Ford and a Gator from South Country Equipment. This year's furry friends will be heading to the Salvation Army to be used as holiday gifts for kids and families. A portion of the stuffed toys will go to Coronation Park Community School. Salvation Army's Executive Director for Regina Waterston Ministries, Major Al Hoeft says the Teddy Bear Toss is a great way to support those facing difficult times.
"Each of these teddy bears will go to children in families who are struggling this Christmas season, bringing hope and smiles to kids throughout our city," Hoeft says. "The Salvation Army is grateful for the ongoing partnership with the Regina Pats, who graciously facilitate this event for the community."
"The 2021 Teddy Bear Toss is a special one for us," adds Pats COO, Trevor Buhnai. "It's been two years since the team has held the annual event and we couldn't be prouder of the support our fans showed for the kids in the community and our team."
Any fans who missed the game are welcome to drop their stuffed toy off directly to the Salvation Army Haven of Hope, located at 2240 13th Ave.
