ST. JOSEPH, MO (July 5, 2007) - The starting pitchers were too much on Thursday evening at Phil Welch Stadium and it took 11 innings for the St. Paul Saints to beat the St. Joseph Blacksnakes 5-1.

Saints starter Charlie Ruud was incredible going 9.0 shutout innings allowing four hits while striking out a season tying high 10. His counterpart Kellen Raab was just as impressive going 7.2 shutout innings allowing four hits while walking two and striking out seven.

It took until the 11th for the Saints to break through. The Saints sent 11 men to the plate and it started with Brent Krause walking to lead things off. He stole second and with one out Brian Sprout was intentionally walked. Alex Fonseca then hit a grounder that was booted by thirdbaseman Chad Sosebee which loaded the bases. Skip Adams singled to right-center which drove home two. Ben Thomas followed with an RBI double down the right field line which made it 3-0. Ryan Priddy added a suicide squeeze and Scooter Jordan followed with an RBI single to make it 5-0. The big at bat came when Krause came up again and Marcel Longmire on deck. Longmire, who had hit in an American Association record tying 22 games, was 0-5. Krause ripped a grounder to the right, but Dustin Yount made a diving play and threw out Krause at first to end the inning. Longmire finished the night 0-5 and his streak came to an end at 22.

The Saints return home Friday night to take on the Lincoln Saltdogs at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send Justin Lord (0-0, 0.00) to the hill against Saltdogs RHP Josh Kauten (6-0, 3.51). The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is Unsung Heroes Night presented by TDS Metrocom with fireworks following the game.
