
Issy Gets Busy in Daytona's 9-6 Victory

LAKELAND,FL - Ibandel Isabel clubbed a pair of three-run homers in Daytona's 9-6 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers Saturday night at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. Daytona becomes the second FSL team to reach 30 wins this season, pushing their lead in the North Division to four games.
Daytona got the scoring started two batters into the top of the second. Jose Siri worked a four-pitch walk, then came around to score on a Tyler Stephenson two-run homer to right field.
Lakeland would respond in the fourth. Tejay Antone struck out Daz Cameron to lead off the frame, retiring the tenth consecutive batter. However, Lakeland would follow by loading up the bases on a pair of singles and a walk, just ahead of Zac Shepard, who came up and hit a Grand Slam off the top of the right field fence for the lead.
The Tortugas would retake the lead in the top of the sixth. TJ Friedl and Stephenson both walked to start the inning, then Isabel came up and hit his first three-run home run of the night, to left field, to give Daytona a 5-4 lead.
That Daytona lead would not last long. In the bottom of the sixth, the Flying Tigers scored two, both coming with two outs. Aaron Quillen struck out Andres Sthormes with two away, but the ball snuck away from Stephenson, allowing Sthormes to reach on the dropped third strike. Derek Hill then came up and reached on a bunt single, with Sthormes moving to third on a Quillen throwing error. Sthormes would score on a second Quillen wild pitch to tie the game at five. Hill ended up moving to third on the play, and came in to score on a Luke Burch single to center to put Lakeland back on top, 6-5.
The Tortugas took the lead back in the eigth, batting around and scoring four runs. After Friedl grounded out to start the inning, Siri singled and Stephenson walked ahead of Isabel, who came up and hit his second three-run homer of the game, giving Daytona an 8-6 lead. Narciso Crook followed the homer with a single, moved to second on a groundout, and came in to score on a Hector Vargas single to put Daytona up 9-6.
In the bottom of the ninth, Lakeland got the tying run to the plate against RHP Ryan Hendrix with two outs, but Hendrix struck out Cole Bauml to secure the win.
RHP Aaron Fossas (2-0) earned the win in relief. He allowed just one hit in two-scoreless innings. RHP Trey Teakell (1-1) was handed the loss, after allowing two runs, a hit and a walk in 1 ? innings pitched, and was pulled just prior to Isabel's second HR. Hendrix earns his third save, striking out the side in a scoreless ninth, after allowing a hit and a walk.
Daytona looks to sweep the four-game series with Lakeland Sunday afternoon with RHP Ryan Olson (4-3, 4.14 ERA) on the mound.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM, with coverage beginning at 12:45 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
NOTES:Â Tonight was the Tortugas first win when trailing after seven innings. They had been 0-12... The Tortugas are now 19-0 when leading after eight innings... Daytona is 5-0 against Lakeland in 2018... Ibandel Isabel recorded multi-home run games on back-to-back days for the first time in his career... Isabel drove in a season-high, and Tortugas single-game high, six runs... Tyler Stephenson recorded the Tortugas fifth three-run game, one day after Mitch Nay did the same thing... Ryan Hendrix has allowed just one earned run in his last 13 outings (14 ? innings, 0.61 ERA)... This is the Tortugas fourth winning streak of four or more games this season.
