Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL. - The Dunedin Blue Jays notched their 21st victory of the year with a 4-0 final over the Tampa Tarpons in game two of the three game weekend set.
Dunedin jumped on Tampa starter RHP Albert Abreu right away in the bottom of the first. Eduard Pinto smacked a double to right, followed by a walk issued to Kevin Smith to put two runners aboard. Bradley Jones then stepped to the plate and served a single to right to score Pinto. Batting in the fourth spot for the 10th time this season, Alberto Mineo drilled an RBI single to score Smith to make it 2-0 Dunedin.
Two batters later and with runners at the corners, Riley Adams grounded one to third that Mandy Alvarez threw away into right field to allow Jones to score. Josh Palacios grounded into a fielder's choice to push across Mineo to bring the score to 4-0 Dunedin after one inning of play.
Meanwhile, RHP Patrick Murphy made the start for Dunedin in his return from Double-A New Hampshire and went 5.0 scoreless innings, while striking out six to register his third victory of the year.
The final threat for Tampa came in the 7th inning, but Kyle Holder grounded out with a runner at second to end one of the only rallies of the night for the Tarpons. The combination of LHP Jake Fishman and RHP Jackson McClelland retired the final six hitters to close the book on Tampa.
Offensively, Dunedin banged out 10 hits in total, receiving three from Ivan Castillo and two each from Eduard Pinto and Bradley Jones. Pinto continued his tear at the plate and is now hitting .343 in his last nine games.
Tampa and Dunedin will do battle in the rubber matchup of the series tomorrow afternoon. Newly named southpaw all-star Angel Perdomo (0-2, 1.74) gets the ball for Dunedin, matched up against RHP Garrett Whitlock (0-0, 0.00) for the Tarpons. The first pitch is set for 1:00 E.T. at Dunedin Stadium.
