Isotopes Shut Out by Royals in Series Finale, 2-0

July 3, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Five Omaha Royal pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout of the Albuquerque Isotopes (46-38) Sunday night at Rosenblatt Stadium in a 2-0 decision that denied the ‘Topes of a four-game sweep in Nebraska and snapped a four-game winning streak, overall. Albuquerque starter Travis Smith (2-3) took the tough loss despite allowing just two runs and striking out six in as many innings before an announced crowd of 22,023.

Denny Bautista pitched the first three innings, Shane Nance (2-2) tossed the next three, and Jamie Cerda and Justin Huisman bridged the gap to Santiago Ramirez, who picked up his fourth save of 2005. It was just the second time the Isotopes had been shut out this year; the other time being on April 26th in a 10-0 defeat to Oklahoma.

The Royals (39-45) scored the only run they would need in the third inning when Adrian Brown tripled down the right-field line with two outs and came around to score on a single to the gap in right field by Denny Hocking. Chris Truby added a solo home run in the fourth to cap off the scoring for the game.

For the game, Albuquerque left six men on base and didn't advance a runner past second base. Joe Dillon and Chris Aguila each doubled for the ‘Topes.

The Isotopes will return home to open a seven-game homestand beginning Monday night against the Oklahoma RedHawks at 6:05 in a special Independence Day holiday celebration. The ‘Topes are scheduled to send right-handed pitcher Jeff Fulchino (6-6, 5.99) to the hill against RedHawks lefty Ryan Snare (1-2, 5.15). Standing room only tickets are still available for a great evening of ‘Topes baseball followed by the best fireworks in Albuquerque, presented by First State Bank and KASA Fox 2. The Isotopes will also be sporting special Independence Day jerseys that will be auctioned after the game with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross.

The seven-game homestand is packed with great giveaways and promotions, including another appearance by the Zooperstars!, free sport bags, and mini-bat giveaways. Tickets are available at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at local Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, and Ticketmaster by phone at 883-7800.
