Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
In a series dominated by offense, the Isotopes (8-11) outslugged the Salt Lake Bees (12-7) in the finale Monday night, winning 12-9 at Smith's Ballpark. The two teams combined to score 55 runs during the three-game series.
The Isotopes collected 14 hits on Monday led by Drew Weeks with three knocks. Albuquerque's bats came alive in the third inning, scoring four runs on RBI hits from Mike Tauchman, Josh Fuentes and Tom Murphy. Five more runs crossed the plate in the fifth, highlighted by RBI doubles from Tauchman and Jordan Patterson.
Tauchman finished the day with two doubles, two RBI, two walks and three runs scored. Patterson reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances with one hit, two walks and two hit-by-pitches. The first baseman now has 34 hit-by-pitches in his Isotopes career, tying Mark Little for the most in team history.
Daniel Castro continued his hitting streak to 17 games after he went 2-for-4 at the plate. The hitting streak is the longest active streak in all of Minor League Baseball.
Reliever Jerry Vasto recorded the win on the mound while D.J. Johnson picked up his second save of the 2018 campaign. Starting pitcher Chris Jensen lasted 3.0 innings, surrendering three runs, six hits and three walks.
Following a league-wide off day on Tuesday, the Isotopes will begin a five-game homestand against the Las Vegas 51s on Wednesday at Isotopes Park. Left-hander Sam Howard (1-2, 7.62) is slated to start for Albuquerque. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
