Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (6-13) notched their first series victory of the year thanks to an 11-4 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (12-6) in Monday night's series finale at Dell Diamond. The Express dropped seven runs in the eighth inning to seal the win.
Express RHP Connor Sadzeck (1-0, 1.35) earned his first career Triple-A victory thanks to striking out the only batter he faced in the eighth inning. Sky Sox RHP Michael Brady (0-1, 5.79) suffered the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
Round Rock jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first three innings of play. E-Train 1B Tommy Joseph opened the scoring in the second with a towering home run to left field. An inning later, SS Nick Noonan singled and DH Willie Calhoun worked a walk before LF Ryan Rua stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run homer.
Colorado Springs cut the deficit in half in the fourth. CF Keon Broxton and DH Tyler Saladino teamed up for back-to-back doubles that put the Sky Sox on the board. An ensuing Kyle Wren RBI single trimmed the gap to 4-2.
After a pair of scoreless frames, the visitors tied the game in the seventh. With RHP Tyler Wagner on in relief, Colorado Springs RF Brett Phillips and C Christian Bethancourt tallied a pair of singles. 1B Ji-Man Choi then leveled the game at 4-4 with a two-run double.
The Round Rock offense exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning to break the deadlock. Following back-to-back singles courtesy of CF Scott Heineman and Calhoun, Rua drove in his fourth run of the night with an RBI double. Sky Sox RHP Radhames Liz emerged from the bullpen, electing to intentionally walk Joseph to begin his outing. Liz then walked RF Destin Hood on five pitches to force in Round Rock's sixth run of the evening.
The big inning continued as C Cameron Rupp lined a two-run double down the left field line to pad the gap to 8-4. 2B Christian Lopes then put the final nail in the Sky Sox coffin with a three-run homer that crashed into the Express bullpen in left-center field, putting the Express up 11-4.
Following a league-wide off-day on Tuesday, the Express head to Memphis for a five-game series against the Redbirds. E-Train RHP Yovani Gallardo (0-0, 11.57) is slated to start against Redbirds RHP Daniel Poncedeleon (1-1, 1.06) in Wednesday's series opener. First pitch at AutoZone Park is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
