Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders have scored a lot of goals over their six-game winning streak. They hadn't scored as many as this though.

The Islanders would reach double-digit goals for the first time since the 2016-2017 season as they defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs by a score of 10-4 this afternoon at Harbour Station in Saint John, extending their winning streak to seven games.

Unlike the other six games of this winning streak, Charlottetown didn't come out peppering the opposing netminder with shots, and actually faced a lot of shots themselves. It didn't take long for the Sea Dogs to capitalize and get on the board early, as Anthony Boucher would notch his third goal of the year just under four minutes in to the game.

The Islanders were quick to respond though thanks to two former Sea Dogs. Kevin Gursoy would find Daniel Hardie in the slot and the overager would make no mistake, sniping a shot past Alex D'Orio for his ninth goal of the season.

The Sea Dogs would jump ahead shortly after thanks to Nicholas Deakin-Poot. The big forward would score his first goal of the season on Matthew Welsh just minutes after Hardie's marker to make it 2-1 Saint John.

As the period wore on the intensity picked up. Fights broke out amongst the two teams on a number of occasions. The Islanders would emerge from the wreckage to tie the game up near the end of the first, as Hunter Drew would take a slapper from the point that caromed off a Sea Dogs defender and past D'Orio for a 2-2 score after 20.

The action didn't slow down in the second period. The Islanders would capitalize on three straight occasions in the second period. Thomas Casey would kick it off for the Isles with a great move to the middle of the zone before going high on D'Orio for his fourth of the season.

Hunter Drew would follow up Casey's performance with a nifty dangle of his own, toe dragging a Sea Dogs defender before beating D'Orio for his second of the game. Daniel Hardie would then add his tenth goal of the year and second of the game just minutes after Drew, giving the Islanders a 5-2 lead nearing the end of the second.

The Sea Dogs would flex their muscles on the powerplay though late in the second period, as Yohan Plamondon and Brady Burns would both capitalize on a 5-on-3 powerplay with less than a minute to go in the period to bring the score back within one, 5-4, heading in to the third.

Unfortunately for Saint John, that's as close as they would get. The Islanders seemed to capitalize nearly every time they touched the puck in the third period. Brett Budgell would score his third of the season just one minute in to the third period, receiving the pass in the slot from Nikita Alexandrov and going glove side on D'Orio.

Alexandrov would join in on the fun later in the period, finding a loose puck in front of D'Orio, shifting to his backhand, and roofing it on the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect to make it 7-4.

Keith Getson would add two more goals late in the game, followed up by a Derek Gentile marker, and the Islanders would secure their seventh straight victory in convincing fashion.

Daniel Hardie finished with two goals and three assists. He and Nikita Alexandrov are now tied for fourth overall in the QMJHL with ten goals apiece. Kevin Gursoy finished with four assists, giving him an astonishing ten points in four games this season against his former team. Drew, Alexandrov, Getson, Casey, and Gentile would all finish with multi-point games. Jacob Arsenault recorded his first point as an Islander, drawing the second assist on Keith Getson's first goal of the game.

Matthew Welsh was stellar in goal for the Isles, stopping 28 shots in the victory.

The Islanders will embark on their second Quebec road trip of the season this coming week, playing three games in three nights in Drummondville, Sherbrooke, and Victoriaville. Their next home game is Thursday, November 8th, when they take on the Moncton Wildcats for the first time this season. Tickets for that game are available at the Eastlink Centre box office, by phone at 902-629-6625, or online at https://boxoffice.eastlinkcentrepei.com. We'll see you there!
