Islanders Girls 2004 open tryouts announced

HONOLULU – With the 2004 Hawaiian Islanders season less than two months away, preparations are being made for another exciting arenafootball2 season. One of those steps being taken today was the announcement of the 2004 Islanders Girls tryouts.

The tryouts will be held on Saturday, February 7 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Islanders Office located at 733 Bishop Street, Suite 2500. In order to apply, you must be at least 18 years old by April 2004, possess an outgoing, self-confident attitude and ability to work with the public in a positive, enthusiastic basis. Good oral communication skills to compliment good cheerleading skills and a positive appearance and presentation are of equal importance. Good cheerleading skills are necessary, advanced dance skills are a plus, but not required. Being selected as an Islanders Girl is a prestigious opportunity reserved for an elite group of women in the Hawaii area. Islanders Girls are paid for their game performances and many of their other public appearances.

This season, the Islanders have enlisted the services of award-winning photographer Mo Martinez in coordinating and selection of this year's squad. Martinez has been into photography for more than 15 years. He has won many prestigious awards over the years. He has traveled the world shooting with models abroad, from the Mideast, Europe, United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Australia and more. He has shot with such icons as Ricky Martin, Bo Derek, American Gladiator Raye Hollitt, and Suzi Simpson just to name a few.

A registration fee of $10 will be required (cash only). Applicants should bring a resume and a sample of any modeling work. An application form must be filled out at the time of registration and a photograph will be taken. Appropriate attire should be worn for an initial interview. There will be no dance or any movement moves during this first round. Applicants might be called back for a second interview.

The Islanders are coming off a very successful 11-7 record and a Western Division championship in 2003. With this success, the Islanders will again challenge for another title and with the addition of the 2004 Islanders Girls, fans will again be "IN the Game."
