Islanders & Sound Tigers Team Up With Atlantic City
September 8, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers and their National Hockey League affiliate, New York Islanders, have entered into an affiliation agreement with the ECHL's Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The Sound Tigers will work closely with the Islanders and Boardwalk Bullies in player development during the 2004-05 season.
"The Islanders and Sound Tigers are very pleased to have an affiliation with an ECHL team, especially a franchise as strong as Atlantic City," says Islanders General Manager Mike Milbury. "We're very comfortable working with the Boardwalk Bullies because the Sound Tigers have signed a few of their players over the last few seasons and we have seen them produce at the AHL level. We're looking forward to working with the organization."
As part of the agreement, Atlantic City will be able to send select players to Bridgeport's upcoming training camp and could receive AHL and NHL prospects over the course of the season. In their three-year history, despite working agreements with different NHL teams, the Boardwalk Bullies have never had an official affiliation.
Last season, four Boardwalk BulliesâLuke Curtin, Preston Mizzi, Steve Munn and Scott Stirling âplayed for the Sound Tigers. Curtin led the group with one goal, five assists and six points in ten regular-season AHL games and three assists in seven Calder Cup Playoff games.
The Sound Tigers will open the 2004-05 season on Saturday, October 16th when they host the Albany River Rats at 7:05 p.m. at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard. Information regarding season tickets and sponsorship opportunities is available by calling 203-334-GOAL or logging on to www.soundtigers.com.
