Fishkill, New York - June 20, 2006 - On a night when Aberdeen pitchers combined to strike out 16 batters, the Birds offense came up with three extra-base hits to produce two runs in the top of the 14th inning, to give Aberdeen a season-opening, 5-3 win, at Hudson Valley.

In the 14th, Bobby Andrews led off with a triple and one out later Rob Marconi's RBI double gave Aberdeen a 4-3 lead. Then Brandon Snyder came up with his third hit of the game, another double, for a 5-3 lead. Aberdeen had just one hit in the six innings prior to the 14th.

Lefty Chad Thall, a 27th-round pick in 2005, got the win in his pro debut, with two shutout innings. Hard-throwing righty Luis Lebron got the final three outs for his first Aberdeen save.

The IronBirds led 1-0 in the first when Danny Figueroa led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on Napoleon Calzado's sac fly.

Aberdeen took a 3-2 lead with a 2-run top of the 7th on back to back RBI doubles by Snyder and 8th-round pick Jedidiah Stephen. But Hudson Valley got one in the 7th to tie at 3 and it stayed that way until the 14th.

Aberdeen had six doubles, as Calzado and Snyder had two each, and one triple in the contest.

Kyle Schmidt was the starter and pitched a strong game, allowing 2er and 5h with 7 K's in 6.1ip. Henry Lozado kept HV off the board in innings 9 thru 11, before Thall and Lebron pitched at the end.
