Crosscutters strike early

The Crosscutters struck early in their first game of the season coming up with 3 big runs in the top of the first. CF James Barksdale started the inning off with a walk followed by 2B Shelby Ford who was hit by a Brad Furnish pitch to put two early runners on. After a double steal, 3B Alexander Peralta hit a liner to center plating both Barksdale and Ford. With two outs RF Miles Durham singled to bring home Peralta. Crosscutters starter Jared Hughes pitched 4 strong innings of one-hit ball, the one hit being a Mark Hamilton home run in the bottom of the 4th. Cutters first baseman Kent Sakamoto tripled to the gap in right-center bringing home SS Angel Gonzalez and Ford for two more runs in the top of the 5th. After the home team scored two more runs in the 5th and 7th innings, Cutters reliever Olivo Astacio took the mound in the bottom half of the 9th to close out the Spikes to pick up his first save of the season.

The 2nd and 3rd games of the SawBuck Series will be played at Williamsport's Historical Bowman Field. Both games set to begin at 7:05 p.m.
