Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Highlight of the Night
Even in a 10-5 loss last night, there were still some highlights for the Aberdeen IronBirds. George Barber led off the bottom of the first by lining the first pitch he saw into the left-center gap for a triple. He would score two batters later. Conor Bierfeldt led off the second inning with his first career hit, a double, and would score on a Jeff Kemp RBI ground out. In the eighth, after Barber and Breen hit back to back singles, Hector Veloz homered to left, as the ball landed on the roof of the visitor's clubhouse.
Professional debuts and firsts
In addition to Bierfeldt getting his first professional hit, Jared Breen singled and scored in the eighth, collecting his first career base knock. Williams Louico and Harry Marino also made their IronBirds' debut last night.
Kirsch was dealing...
Hudson Valley Renegades' LHP Chris Kirsch recovered after the IronBirds touched him up for runs in each of the first two innings. After giving up a two out single to Veloz, Kirsch did not allow a base runner the rest of the way, fanning eight. RHP Aaron Griffin continued the streak through the seventh and into the eighth. Barber's single broke the streak of 14 consecutive IronBirds retired.
On the mound tonight...
LHP Luc Rennie will go for the IronBirds tonight. He is making his Aberdeen debut this evening. He was the Orioles' 16th round draft pick last year. He has pitched in just one game this season, May 30th, when he pitched two innings in relief for the Frederick Keys and got the win. The Renegades will county with RHP John Farrell. Farrell is making his professional debut after staring for William and Mary for the last four seasons.
New York, New York
Tomorrow morning, the IronBirds will board a bus and head for MCU Park to play the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Cyclones and Staten Island Yankees were rained out last night, so tomorrow night's game will be the first at the renovated stadium after Hurricane Sandy severely damaged the ballpark and front office. The grass has been replaced with turf with the exception of the mound and home plate. After three in Brooklyn, the IronBirds will play the Yankees for three. The next home stand begins a week from tonight on June 26th.
