IronBirds to host Military Appreciation Night on Aug. 16

Aberdeen, MD- The Aberdeen IronBirds, short-season class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, announce today that the team will present the second annual "Military Appreciation Night" on August 16, 2007 when the IronBirds host the Staten Island Yankees at 7:05 PM.

The IronBirds will wear special commemorative camouflage jerseys, autograph them and then raffle them off immediately after the game. Raffle proceeds will benefit the Army Emergency Relief Fund. Fans may purchase raffle tickets beginning at the August 10, 2007 game against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers or by calling the IronBirds office at (410) 297-9292.

"It is an honor and a pleasure to be able to give back to our military community," Lev Shellenberger, Director of Ticket Sales, said. "Aberdeen Proving Ground is celebrating its 90th Anniversary and we want to do our part and give back to all the men and women who have served at Aberdeen and in the entire United States military."

A representative from Aberdeen Proving Ground will throw out a ceremonial first pitch to kick off the evening.

Planned activities also include Pvt. Corey Sims, OCNS performing the National Anthem while accompanied by the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and Schools Color Guard. There will also be a 21-gun salute. In addition, IronBirds Co-owner and Executive Vice President Bill Ripken will present a representative from Aberdeen Proving Ground with a commemorative plaque honoring Aberdeen Proving Ground's 90 years of service to Aberdeen and the country.

Finally, a new Humvee from RDECOM; Research, Development, Engineering Command; and several vintage military vehicles will be on display outside Ripken Stadium. The first 5,000 fans entering the stadium will receive yellow ribbons to commemorate the evening.
