Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

In their last home game until August 27th, the Aberdeen IronBirds lost a rare one-run decision to the Vermont Expos, 4-3, Monday night. Aberdeen falls to 25-26 on the season, 12-5 in one-run games, and begins a 16-game road trip Tuesday at Williamsport.

Trailing 2-0 after five innings, Vermont's Marvin Lowrance hit a two-run homer off Luis Ramirez to tie it at 2 in the 6th. In the 7th, David Travis hit a two-run shot off Trent Baysinger and the Expos led 4-2.

Corey Shafer hit a pinch-hit solo HR in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-3, but Aberdeen could not rally in the 8th or 9th.

In likely his final appearance of the year with the IronBirds, Ramirez gave up four hits and two runs in six innings. He is being transferred to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Tuesday. He was 1-1, with an ERA of 4.76 with Aberdeen and leaves leading the NYPL in strikeouts, with 75 in 51 innings.

Baysinger took the loss, reliever David Trahan got the win and Gus Hlebovy earned his tenth save, joining Aberdeen's David Haehnel as the only pitchers in the league with double-figure saves.

The Cal Ripken World Series now takes over Ripken Stadium, and the IronBirds embark on a 16-game, 17-day road trip. Aberdeen will play six road series through August 26th.
