Fishkill, NYâ The Hudson Valley Renegades (27-21) were victorious last night over the Tri-City ValleyCats (30-20) 5-1 at Dutchess Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,677. The Renegades won the three game series two games to one over the Stedler Division leaders.
The Renegades lead 1-0 in the bottom of the third when they broke the game open, taking a commanding 4-0 lead on a RBI double by DH John Jaso and sacrifice flies from 3B Pat Cottrell and 1B Chris Nowak.
Tri-City got on the board in the fourth on a solo home run from CF Hunter Pence, but that would be all the scoring they would do on the night. The Renegades then added one more unearned run in the fifth inning.
Matt Cobb (W, 3-4) recorded the win for the âGades. He pitched six innings allowing three hits and one run while striking out eight. Jose Delacruz (S, 3) finished the game pitching from the seventh inning on and recording a rare three inning save. In three innings he allowed two hits and struck out three.
Garrett Murdy (L, 0-1) got the loss for Tri-City in a spot start after Ronnie Martinez, the scheduled starter, was pushed back a day. Murdy pitched five innings, allowed six hits and five runs, but only three were earned.
The Renegades start a crucial three game series with division opponent New Jersey tomorrow in New Jersey. Scheduled to start for the Renegades is RHP Eduardo Delacruz (2-3, 3.53) and RHP Donnie Smith (1-1, 4.26) for New Jersey. The Cardinals trail the Renegades by two games for the wild card in the New York-Penn League. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
