Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen secured a tight 5-4 win last night in the series opener thanks to nine singles and three wild pitches by Siulman Lebron the Crosscutters starting pitcher. They are 1-0 in 2009 vs. Williamsport.

HAUGHIAN LIGHTS OUT:

In his first start since he went 6.0 innings of no hit ball Nick Haughian was on his game once again. A 6.2 inning performance allowing four hits, 4 runs, none of which were earned, two walks, and three strikeouts, earning his fifth win of the season. If not for the three error inning by his defense Haughian may not have given up a run at all in this outing.

HITTING NUGGETS:

T.J Baxter and Brian Ward had their hitting streaks snapped last night vs. WIL at five and four games respectively, but both still managed to get on base twice apiece. Ty Kelly and Brian Conley both extended their hitting streaks to five games, while Britton, Bumbry and Rosa extended theirs to four games each and Dalles and D'Oleo are both at three game hitting streaks.

ALLEN TOES THE RUBBER:

RHP Colin Allen will make his 11th start of the season for Aberdeen. Allen is coming off a loss @ SC back on 8/6/09 where he gave up four earned runs in five innings of work. Allen is still looking for his first win of the season, he is 0-5.

CAROLUS GOLD STANDARD:

Levi Carolus is currently leading the team in six offensive categories: average, hits, RBI, doubles, stolen bases and slugging. Carolus went 1-4 with a run scored on Tuesday night vs. WIL.
