Three Muckdogs Make All-Star Roster

BATAVIA, N.Y. - August 12, 2009 - The 2009 New York-Penn League All-Star roster will include three players from Batavia. The Muckdogs are sending two position players and one pitcher to the game to be held Tuesday, August 18th in State College, PA. The rosters include 56 players from 14 teams.

Batavia infielder Alan Ahmady will be joined by catcher Luis De La Cruz and right handed pitcher Santo Maertz. Ahmady, an 11th round pick in this year's draft, is currently eighth in the league in batting with a .311 average and fifth in the league in on-base percentage with .399. He also has 23 RBI's and 11 doubles on the year.

De La Cruz was an undrafted free agent signing in 2006 and has started 25 games at catcher this year for the Muckdogs. He is currently batting .216 with 11 RBI's. De La Cruz has been solid behind the plate this year for the Muckdogs, throwing out 34% of the runners who have attempted to steal on him and has help guide the pitching staff to a team ERA of 3.39.

Santo Maertz was a 44th round draft pick in the 2008 draft. His ERA of 1.21 is second on the team this year. He also recorded 25 strikeouts in his 22.1 innings of work. Maertz, who's primary responsibility is a set up man, has help opposing hitters to an average of just .133.

Batavia holds the fourth place spot in the Pinckney Division with a record of 25-27. The Muckdogs sent five players to the 2008 All-Star game.
