Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, N.Y. (August 12, 2009) - The Hudson Valley Renegades (25-28) bullpen faltered in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Tri-City ValleyCats (16-34). The Renegades have lost seven of their past eight games, scoring only three runs per game over that span. Hudson Valley has lost the first two contests against Tri-City, which has the worst record in the New York-Penn League.

In the top of the second Brett Nommensen (.234-1-18) led off with an infield single and sparked a big inning for the Renegades. Nommensen is on a recent tear, hitting .419 in August after hitting only .163 in July. David Genao grounded out with runners on second and third, but drove in Nommensen with one out for Hudson Valley's first run. Genao also successfully advanced Acosta to third, who later scored the go ahead run on a throwing error by Tri-City third baseman Erik Castro.

Hudson Valley added to their 2-1 lead, with a deep homerun to left center off the bat of Gabe Cohen. Cohen was 2 for 4, but has only five extra-base hits over 85 at-bats this season.

With the bases loaded and one out, Renegades starting pitcher Devin Fuller (1-1, 3.77) prepared to face the top of the Tri-City batting order nursing a 3-1 lead. Fuller induced two infield popups to escape the inning unscathed. The ValleyCats had 10 base-runners over the first five innings, but only one scored as Fuller proceeded to work in and out of trouble.

Southpaw Glenn Gibson (3-4, 6.31) earned the loss in relief of starter Devin Fuller. Gibson entered in the sixth inning and was burned on five singles which led to three runs. The Renegades bullpen had only allowed four runs over its last 12+ innings before Wednesday's game.

The final game of the three game series will be a battle of southpaw studs as Hudson Valley's Kyle Lobstein (1-4, 3.40) faces Tri-City's Dallas Keuchel (0-2, 2.12). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy NY.
