Iowa Wolves Release Innovative 2021-22 Season Schedule

Des Moines, Iowa - The NBA G League announced today that the Iowa Wolves, the NBA G League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves, will begin their official 2021-22 season this year at home in Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Iowa Wolves will be led this year by recently promoted head coach Jeff Newton. Newton served as the head coach for a successful Summer League campaign earlier this year and was an assistant coach last season for the Timberwolves.

"This is such an exciting time to be a part of the NBA G League and Minnesota Timberwolves organizations," said Iowa Wolves President Ryan Grant. "The elite talent that will be on our hardcourt this year is something basketball fans in the state of Iowa can appreciate. And, thanks to the continued support of our growing fan base, we are able to continue elevating our game here in Des Moines with special events like the Team Ignite visit."

An all-time high 45 percent of players on NBA start-of-season rosters for 2020-21 had NBA G League experience (224 of the League's 497 players).

The NBA G League is implementing an innovative structure for the 2021-22 season, which will include two parts (a 14-game Showcase Cup and a traditional 36-game regular season) in order to create additional excitement and increase competition.

The Iowa Wolves will host 25 total games this season including eight Showcase Cup qualifiers, 16 Regular Season matchups and one pre-season exhibition game against NBA G League Team Ignite.

The NBA G League is the NBA's official minor league, preparing players, coaches, officials, trainers and front office staff for the NBA while acting as the league's research and development laboratory. Featuring 29 teams, 28 with one-to-one affiliations with NBA franchises, the league offers elite professional basketball at an affordable price in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.
