Iowa Wolves News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - D.J. Carton poured in a career-high 38 points for the Iowa Wolves in a 113-111 win over the Rip City Remix on Tuesday evening at the Chiles Center.

The first ever meeting between Iowa (5-15) and Rip City (10-8) came down to the final possession. Trevor Keels buried a three with 16.3 seconds remaining to put Iowa up 113-110. After their timeout, the Remix had two three-point chances miss before Antoine Davis was fouled with 2.5 seconds to go. Davis made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second leading to a scramble for the loose ball as time expired.

Former Iowa State standout George Conditt IV and Anthony Duruji led Rip City with 17 points each. The pair were among six from Rip City to finish with double figures.

Carton's career night was highlighted with his final five points of the game that helped Iowa take the lead back for good. Carton made a three-pointer that was preceded by Davis' own three that briefly gave Rip City the lead at 104-103. Carton followed his three with a nifty driving layup and was fouled but he missed the free throw as Iowa still led 108-104.

Keels scored 19 points and handed out nine assists while Nojel Eastern and Lance Stephenson each scored 16 and the duo each recorded double-doubles as Eastern pulled down 12 rebounds and Stephenson had 11. Kok Yat and Chris Smith were Iowa's other double digits scorers tallying 12 points each.

Rip City is in its first year as a franchise as the affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. Iowa and Rip City will play again later this season on March 1 in Portland.

The Wolves will enjoy the NBA G League All-Star break with the team returning to action on Feb. 23 when it hosts the Rio Grande Valley Vipers for Timberwolves Day. Tipoff at Wells Fargo Arena is set for 7 p.m. CT. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Naz Reid Iowa/Minnesota co-branded t-shirt. Doors open at 6 p.m. CT.
