
Iowa Signs NHL Veteran Steve McCarthy

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced on Monday the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed defenseman Steve McCarthy to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).
The 34-year old is a 14-year veteran of professional hockey with over 300 NHL games under his belt. The defenseman played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Thrashers and Vancouver Canucks from 1999-2008. In all, the 6-1, 210-pounder played in 302 NHL games with 17 goals and 55 points. McCarthy was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round (#23 overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. The Trail, BC native spent significant time in Europe from 2008-14, playing in the Finnish Elite League, Swiss A League and the Kontinental Hockey League. The longtime defender has played in 551 total pro games, scoring 32 goals and adding 90 assists for 122 points. Between the Chicago Wolves and Norfolk Admirals, McCarthy has played in 161 AHL games. Over his AHL career, he has 12 goals and 56 points.
Iowa returns home at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24 to face Grand Rapids. It's a Taco Tuesday - presented by Taco Johns, where each fan that comes to the game receives a coupon for a free crispy beef taco from Taco Johns. It's also a two-for-one Tuesday, where fans may purchase one attack end ticket and receive a second ticket one free, sponsored by Hits 99.9 FM. Also, those who bring in a Subway receipt may purchase a $5 game ticket at the box office. Iowa is also hosting a food drive, presented by Zerorez. Fans are encouraged to bring in a canned fruit item to receive a ticket voucher to a future regular season weekday game.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team's 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
