
Iowa hosts Spokane at Wells Fargo Arena

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (3-3) are home for the second straight week as they take on the Spokane Empire (4-1). The game is set to kick off on Saturday, April 16 at 7:05 p.m. CDT at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Fans will be able to tune in to the game by watching live on IFLLive.tv or listening on WHO Radio 1040.
Last week, the Barnstormers fell at home to the Nebraska Danger, 46-43. It was a tale of two halves as the Barnstormers found themselves ahead at the end of the first half, 21-7. The Danger closed the gap in the second half and took the lead late in the fourth quarter. The Barnstormers were unable to find the end zone in the closing minutes and dropped their second straight game, 46-43. Leading the effort for the Barnstormers was receiver Lemans Casimier who found the end zone twice on receptions Casimier also returned a Danger kickoff 46 yards for a touchdown with under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Barnstormer defense was headlined by defensive back Michael Johnson as he stepped in at linebacker. Johnson recorded eight solo tackles including three tackles for loss and one sack.
The Spokane Empire posted a franchise record 97 points and retained first place in the Intense Conference after their second straight win over the Colorado Crush last Saturday in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Empire offense was highlighted by quarterback Charles Dowdell who completed 21 of 27 pass attempts for 172 and eight touchdowns. Defensive back Tyree Robinson led the Empire on defense recording seven solo tackles.
This week's matchup between the Iowa Barnstormers and Spokane Empire features two of the league's top quarterbacks. Iowa's Porterie continues his stellar play ranking first in passing yards (1089), second in yards per game (181.5) and third in passing touchdowns (22). Spokane's Charles Dowdell is off to a great start in his IFL career as he currently ranks third in completion percentage (62.9%), fifth in passing yards (778) and second in passing touchdowns (23).
This marks just the second meeting between the two franchises since the Barnstormers joined the Indoor Football League. In the last meeting just two weeks ago, the Empire defeated the Barnstormers, 54-51. Next week the Barnstormers will travel to Green Bay on April 24 for a 3:00 p.m. matchup with the Blizzard. Currently, Green Bay sits at fifth place in the United Conference while the loss to Nebraska dropped the Barnstormers to fourth in the United Conference.
