Fever Look for Sweep of Crush

April 15, 2016 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Tri-Cities Fever News Release

The Tri-Cities Fever hit the road again for the second straight week, looking for its first road win of the season.

Tri-Cities, coming off a 44-35 setback at Wichita Falls on Saturday, visits Loveland, Colo., to take on the Colorado Crush on Friday. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. The Fever beat the Crush just two weeks ago in Kennewick using a touchdown in the final 25 seconds to pull out a 37-34 victory.

The Crush (0-6) remain the Indoor Football League's only winless team more than a quarter into the season. Tri-Cities is 2-4 and could easily be 4-2 or even better, if it weren't for a series of fourth quarter mistakes and misfortunes.

In six games, the Fever has lost two games by less than a touchdown and two games by nine points, both of which we not decided until the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Fever had another game get away from them in the fourth quarter last week against the Nighthawks as the potential go-head field goal was blocked late in the fourth quarter, setting up the game's final touchdown. The Fever was held without a point the final 15 minutes of the game. The Fever's final three possessions of the game ended with a fumble, a blocked field goal, and a turnover on downs.

The Fever won about every offensive and defensive category in the game, with the exception of the final score. The Fever had 246 yards of total offense to just 178 for the Nighthawks and forced three turnovers on defense.

Colorado is coming off 97-72 loss to the Empire. The 97 points allowed were the second most in IFL history as Spokane scored on every offensive possession. The Crush defense ranks at or near the bottom of the league in most defensive categories.

On the other side, the Fever defense has been a big bright spot during the first six games of the season. The Fever ranks first in fumbles recovered (5) and interceptions (13).

Dee Maggitt Jr. leads the league with four interceptions and Boubacar Cissoko is tied with several others for second with three.

Notes: This is the second and final meeting between the two teams this season ... the Fever returns home next week to take on the Empire ... The Fever released kicker Steven Wakefield this week and signed kicker Daniel Zeidman, who played at Idaho State University ... The Fever ranks second in the league in scoring defense, allowing 44.2 points per game; Colorado is allowing a league-worst 60 points per game.
