
Empire Signs Kicker Steven Wakefield

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Empire has signed kicker Steven Wakefield to their 2016 IFL roster.
Wakefield (K, 5-11, 180, Mercyhurst) joins the Empire for his rookie season as a member of the Indoor Football League. Steven spent the first eight weeks of the 2016 season with the Tri-Cities Fever where he played in six games and converted on 18-of-27 (66 percent) point-after-attempts and ten of his 27 field goal attempts. Out of his 27 field goals, 13 were attempts beyond 40 yards. He connected on 64 percent of his kicks within 39 yards (9-of-14).
Steven played his collegiate career at Mercyhurst University (PA) where he finished as the statistical leader in nearly every kicking category for the Lakers. At the end of his final season in 2013, he was the program's all-time leader in career points by any player (278), career points by a kicker (278), career field goals (38), career extra points (164), field goal percentage (73.1), extra point percentage (93.7), and punting average (41.0).
He played his prep career at Greece Athena High School in Rochester, New York.
