Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Pat Carroll and Cartier Martin combined for 46 points as the Iowa Energy defeated the Erie BayHawks 97-94 Friday night in Des Moines.
Iowa jumped out to a 58-46 halftime lead as Carroll scored 15 of his team high 25 points in the half. While it appeared that the Energy would coast to another victory, Erie had other thoughts. The BayHawks went on a 13-1 run to open the fourth quarter as they took a 90-85 lead with 7:38 remaining in the game.
The Energy responded with a 9-0 run of their own behind a pair of Carroll 3-pointers to take a 94-90 lead. The two teams traded baskets before Earl Barron sunk one of two free throws to give Iowa a three point lead with :02 remaining.
After a timeout, Erie set up an inbound play for sharp-shooting Mark Gansey. Gansey missed the attempt, giving Iowa the victory.
In addition to Carroll's big night, Martin added 21 points while Curtis Stinson had 11 points and 13 assists. The win improves Iowa to 24-6 on the season.
Erie was led by Gansey's 26 points. John Bryant added 18 points and 17 rebounds in the loss. Erie falls to 12-18 on the year.
The same two teams match up Saturday night in Des Moines. The day features a doubleheader with the Ames High School boys team playing at 5pm and the Energy playing at 7pm.
