Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance announced today they are hosting the Get Fit Challenge on the Vipers' court at State Farm Arena at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow.
The first 50 students who registered from Ida Diaz Middle School will get to take part in a basketball clinic with Vipers forward Stanley Asumnu, Vipers' All-Star head coach Chris Finch and All-Star assistant coach Paul Mokeski. All participants will receive a free t-shirt and a free ticket to that night's Vipers game against the Reno Bighorns at 7:30 p.m.
"We are excited to be teaming up with Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for the Get Fit Challenge. It is important to maintain a healthy life style, and that's a big part of what the Vipers are about," Vipers President Brian Michael Cooper said.
The Get Fit Challenge is part of NBA D-League Cares, which help to promote health and wellness while increasing awareness of a healthy and active lifestyle for children, teens and their families.
"This is a fantastic program that the Vipers are championing. The Get Fit Challenge shows the Vipers involvement and commitment to the health and well being of our community. They have identified the two major problems that affect people in the RGV, obesity and diabetes. But, exercising and being fit early in life can completely derail these problems. The Vipers are doing what they can to make our community healthier." -Dr. Carlos Cardenas, DHR Chairman of the Board.
The game will be the first of three home games shown live nationally in high definition on VERSUS. It will be the first time a Rio Grande Valley team hosts a nationally televised game.
A very limited number of tickets are available and can purchased over the phone by calling the Vipers at 972-1144 or through Ticketmaster.
VERSUS can be found on Channel 314 in standard definition and channel 1314 in high definition on Time Warner Cable. It can also be found on channel 151 on Dish Network.
