
Iowa Energy Fall to Mad Ants

Fort Wayne, IN - The Iowa Energy (7-10) fell 107-105 to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (11-7) Saturday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
The Energy were led by Memphis Grizzlies assignee James Ennis with 22 points and eight rebounds. Joel Wright added 19 points and Alex Stepheson posted a double-double 16 points and 14 rebounds. Fort Wayne was led by Walter Lemon, Jr. with a game-high 26 points.
The Energy played a physical first quarter with 16 points in the paint to open up an early lead over the Mad Ants. Iowa held a 13-point lead midway through the first before the Mad Ants closed the gap to six points at the end of the first. The Energy held a 28-22 advantage heading into the second quarter behind seven points from Alex Stepheson. The Energy continued to play aggressive and physical in the second quarter. Iowa was able to briefly extend their lead to 20 points over the Mad Ants. Fort Wayne responded and closed the gap to 12 points at halftime. Ennis led the Energy with 15 points in the half to help lead the Energy to a 61-49 halftime advantage.
The Mad Ants came out of halftime on a 16-2 run to quickly erase the 12-point halftime lead held by the Energy. The Mad Ants and Energy would exchange the lead four times in a close third quarter. Fort Wayne outscored the Energy 25-16 in the quarter as the Energy held a 77-74 lead going into the fourth quarter. It continued to be a close game in the fourth with four more lead changes. It all came down to a last second shot by the Energy, who had a chance to tie or win the game with 5.8 seconds left. The Energy could not get the last second shot to fall and Fort Wayne held on to win 107-105 and complete a 20-point comeback.
The Energy head out to the NBA D-League Showcase in Santa Cruz for their next two games. The first game is Wednesday, Jan. 6 followed by their second Showcase game on Friday, Jan. 8. Iowa's next home game is Jan. 12 against Fort Wayne at 7 p.m.
