Des Moines, IA January 12, 2014 - The Iowa Energy defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 135-112 on Sunday.
The two highest scoring teams in the NBA D-League played tight through the first three quarters, and the Vipers took a 93-92 lead into the fourth quarter. The final quarter was all Energy as Iowa outscored the Vipers 43-19.
The Vipers were led by Houston Rockets assignee Robert Covington, who had 23 points. Troy Daniels finished with 21 points. Gary Talton had a double-double with 17 points and 15 assists.
Iowa was led by Jarvis Varnado's triple-double as he finished the night with 14 points, 16 boards, and 10 blocks. Minnesota Timberwolves assignee Shabazz Muhammad had 26 points and 9 rebounds. Moses Ehambe had a double-double with 25 points and 10 boards.
The Energy outrebounded the Vipers 67 to 43.
The Energy travel to Delaware for a game on Tuesday and then come to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, January 18th for Goodwill Night. The game will feature a t-shirt giveaway presented by The Iowa Clinic, and the Alexandria Aces will perform at halftime. The game also features $2 beers and is the first of two Energy Kids Club games.
