Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs' (11-21) offense led the way, scoring nine runs in a 9-2 win over the Columbus Clippers (13-20), Friday at Principal Park.
The Clippers took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Connor Marabell got an RBI single. The lead wouldn't hold for long, as Iowa came up with two runs in the bottom of the inning. They added another in the third to take a 3-1 lead over Columbus.
In his Triple-A debut, Iowa's starter Ryan Kellogg delivered just what Iowa needed as he spun five innings of one-run ball. He allowed just three hits while walking two and striking out one.
Iowa gave Kellogg more run support in the fourth, knocking in three more runs, highlighted by a two-run shot from Dee Gordon. It was Strange-Gordon's first home run since May 12 of 2019. The offense added two more in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 9-1 lead.
Jake Jewell, Brad Wieck and Adam Morgan combined to throw the final four innings for the I-Cubs, allowing just one unearned run on two hits. They walked just one batter while striking out seven, closing out a 9-2 victory for Iowa to break their seven-game losing streak.
