Iowa Barnstormers News Release
DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (3-2) return home for the first time since February 26 to take on the Nebraska Danger (4-2). The game is set to kick off at 7:05 p.m. CDT at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Fans will be able to tune in to the game by watching live on IFLLive.tv or listening on WHO Radio 1040.
Last week, the Barnstormers fell to the Spokane Empire (3-1) in Spokane, Washington, 54-51. The first half the Barnstormers were plagued by penalties and found themselves down, 40-21, at the half. In the second half, the Barnstormers recovered and closed the gap, led by efforts from quarterback Brion Carnes and defensive lineman Lebron Daniel. Carnes racked up 105 yards passing along with two touchdowns while Daniel recovered a fumble for a touchdown to trim the Empire lead to 10, late in the third quarter. Running back Robbie Rouse would score with seconds left in the fourth quarter but the Barnstormers failed to recover an onside kick and Spokane held on, 54-51.
The Nebraska Danger (4-2) come to Des Moines after dropping the Billings Wolves (2-4) last week at home, 45-31. After entering halftime leading 28-24, the Danger defense took over, forcing four turnovers and allowing just seven points, in the second half. Meanwhile, The Danger were led on offense by quarterback Jameel Sewell who threw for over 100 yards and rushed for another 29 yards. Defensive back James Ackel highlighted the Danger defense by snagging three interceptions and recording five tackles.
The matchup between the Barnstormers and the Danger features two of the IFL's top defensive backs. The Barnstormers' Tony Grimes continues his stellar play, ranking third in solo tackles (33), seventh in total tackles (41) and seventh in interceptions (2). Nebraska's Jabari Gorman ranks first in the IFL in solo tackles (35) and sixth in tackles per game (8.5).
This marks the third meeting between the two franchises since the Barnstormers joined the Indoor Football League with Nebraska sweeping the 2015 season series. The Barnstormers will travel to Grand Island on April 29 for a 7:05 p.m. matchup with the Danger. Currently, Nebraska sits in second place in the Intense Conference while the loss to Spokane dropped the Barnstormers to fourth in the United Conference.
The Barnstormers will remain at home next week and look to avenge their loss to Spokane as they play host to the Empire, their second matchup in three weeks. The game is set to kickoff at 7:05 p.m. CDT at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. There is still time to order single game or partial season tickets.
