Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES - The Iowa Cubs, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, added right-hander Joel Peralta to the roster and activated righty Pierce Johnson from the disabled list to start tonight against Colorado Springs. Starting pitcher Alex Sanabia was released by the organization.

A 12-year major league veteran, Peralta began the season with Seattle and pitched to a 1-0 record with a 5.40 ERA through 26 games before getting released on June 4. He was signed by the Cubs on June 9 and assigned to Iowa. Peralta was originally signed by Oakland as a free agent in 1996. He holds a 20-34 career major league record with a 4.00 ERA through 615 games and is 29-10 with a 3.01 ERA through 309 minor league contests.

Johnson, 25, returns from his second stint on the disabled list. In Johnson's first start of the season on April 11, he was hit in the pitching arm by a comeback line drive in the third inning. He missed his next start and spent nine days on the disabled list with a right arm contusion. Upon activation, Johnson made three more starts for the I-Cubs, compiling a 5.17 ERA through 15.2 innings of work, before going back on the DL with a lat strain on May 5.

Sanabia was signed by the Cubs on May 14 after beginning the season in the Mexican League. In six games and five starts with Iowa, he went 2-2 with a 9.59 ERA.

Iowa and Colorado Springs begin a four-game series at Security Service Field at 8:05 p.m. CT. Tune in to AM 940 to catch the action or stream the broadcast live on www.iowacubs.com.
