Round Rock Express News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - The home woes for the Round Rock Express (34-28) continued Monday night as the New Orleans Zephyrs (31-31) collected a 6-0 shutout win in the series opener. Round Rock matched its season low with just three hits in the contest.

Express RHP Kyle Lohse (2-3, 5.35) suffered his third straight loss after giving up five runs, only two of which were earned, on a total of six hits in six innings of work. The 15-year MLB veteran struck out three and walked just one. For the Zephyrs, LHP Chris Narveson (2-2, 3.44) earned the win after a dominant performance. The lefty served up just two base hits over seven innings on the bump, striking out eight E-Train hitters in the process.

New Orleans opened the scoring in the third inning as RF Isaac Galloway reached first base safely after grounding a 3-2 pitch to 2B Pedro Ciriaco, who bobbled the ball on contact and was charged with a fielding error. In the next at-bat, SS Robert Andino made Ciriaco pay for his mistake, blasting a two-run homer into the Express bullpen. LF Austin Nola continued the inning with a ground ball single to center field. After a wild pitch that allowed Nola to advance to second, LF Destin Hood singled to give his team a 3-0 lead. Lohse recovered by striking out DH Xavier Scruggs to end the frame.

E-Train C Brett Nicholas ended Narveson's early perfect game bid with a two-out double in the fourth inning. Nicholas doubled again in the seventh to collect Round Rock's second hit of the evening. The catcher failed to advance on either occasion.

The visitors padded their lead in the sixth as Hood and Scruggs combined for consecutive one-out singles before former Express C Tomas Telis dropped a triple deep into the gap in left-center field. The Zephyrs then used a two-out rally to reset the score at 6-0 in the eighth. After Nola and Hood grounded out, Scruggs worked a walk and 3B Matt Juengel singled. Telis collected his third RBI of the night with a single that escaped the infield past second base, allowing Scruggs to scamper home.

The E-Train couldn't do anything with a leadoff single by RF Drew Robinson in the eighth as the final six batters were retired in order to end the game.

The two Southern Division rivals continue their series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Nick Martinez (6-4, 4.50) is set to toe the rubber for the Express while the Zephyrs are planning on countering with LHP Chris Reed (1-2, 2.65).
